Pup With a Slug is a weird movie.

So it's a live-action movie released in 2003 that's about this golden retriever called Yellow discovering a slug in his owner's back garden. The dog doesn't like the slug, and the slug right back at him. Over the course of the film, the owner slowly falls ill and the two animals start talking to eachother more because the owner isn't playing with yellow all that much.

From what I've read from production (btw not a lot of production behind the movie was documented), like 30 stunt dogs sustained injuries from all the stunts used. Obviously, with the plot I've outlined, there wouldn't be any stunts, right?

Yeah, well, surprise, the final act has the dog run out of the garden fence and chase this truck holding a cure to the owner's illness. (the slug riding on Yellow's head). The dog is running, jumping, falls into a circus tent and has to jump into a flaming hoop. Like it came out of nowhere, me and Tajer were kinda screaming at how dangerous this all looked. "Oh now I get the fucking '30 stunt dog' thing," she yelled if I remember before I started laughing

This movie was pretty controversial for that reason alone. Some regulations were made regarding using animals as stunt actors, and Pup With a Slug was one of the movies cited as an example.

Obviously, cut out that ending bit, and you've got a pretty amusing character writing between a dog and a slug. Toona was a bit confused though; she didn't understand why the animals there all share one language except the humans, and Tajer kept replying with "That happen quite a lot..."

I'd give it a 4/5 based on that, but you have to count the whole package, and that ending bit really brings it down because of how many dogs were hurt. Ouch

3/5
