Okay so you might not know much about this, but lemme explain

Back when YouTube was in its infancy, you had all these up-and-coming content creators trying to become famous, later on getting money off of that. Crazy concept, I'm shocked it even went as far as it did lol

But uhh yeah you had all that stuff, but then, in the year of 2007, February 8, the first iCarly was uploaded on YouTube. Every week these two girls, Carly and Sam, would upload random skits and reviews and storytimes from Carly's bedroom and they were pretty funny

Thankfully, reuploads around the internet still exist after YouTube's passing, so not everything disappeared when I was scavenging the old web.

Carly was the main host of the show. She was the one to kickstart all the ideas, keep the idea train going. And Sam was the artist of the show, drawing digitally and superimposing them onto the videos for some crazy skits like a haunted bra!

They were the only people in charge of the channel, and you could see they were fairly amateurish about it. Like, simple room lighting amateur. But you can't really fault a bunch of young teenagers for being forced to study cinematography. I know they really didn't care, and that really resulted in some very experimental shots and lighting that you wouldn't normally see if someone were study the standard ways.

So in some videos they'd invite some of their classmates over to showcase their talents, pull off some pranks with their landlord, enter abandoned houses and be scared. And throughout it all they'd have these skits that would slowly form a tiny sliver of narrative, but you knew they were always self-aware of it but never outright said it. The videos improved in a special way only they could

The webshow actually began when Carly's school didn't accept her submission for the talent show. Her submission, stand-up, didn't fit the school's standards as her material made fun of the teachers and staff at the school. In response to that, she saw the burgeoning world of internet content and wanted to prove herself a successful comedian.

Real life always brought its way into the webshow. 2008, January 17, their 50th webshow took place in detention because Sam got in trouble for drawing during class. 2009, February 19, iCarly had its crossover with Fred. 2010, March 18, Sam was grounded and so Carly had to host the show with her older brother.

2011 was different. While filming their webshow for February 24, Carly and Sam were dressed as princesses for another skit. While filming, Sam thought Carly was incredibly cute in her dress and accidentally kissed her and felt so deeply embarassed about it. They actually uploaded the serious talk they had about Sam's hidden feelings for Carly. The hug they had after Carly happily accepted dating her was headline news!

Immediately, "The First Online Couple" was spread among news sites (even if I really doubt that's true), and you even had like Miss B congratulating the duo??? I'm reading these old articles as I'm writing them Miss B you shoulda told me about this!!!

Another thing that video spawned among the LGBT+ community was "The Carly Grip" which was based on the way Carly gripped Sam's forearm as she tried walking away in shame. It would be, in a way, a secret handshake as a confession amongst same-sex people. The image I just posted also shows the lesbian flag, based on the colors of the gloves Carly and Sam wore as princesses.

But that's nuts, right? How much influence that one video got? Well, it wasn't without reason. iCarly began as a way for Carly and Sam to express eachother, and that began to extend to people of all origins. As talent submissions kept being sent in, the two would often show talents done by people who have disabilities, who look "odd", who you've never seen before, yadda yadda.

It attracted quite a lot of people who are curious on what iCarly will show them next. To be thrown into the world of weird and come out baptized under new knowledge (I may be going too far with that lmao). But it's true!

lol well anyway their content did continue as normal, just with tones of the two in a relationship. None of the on-going skits they were doing were even affected by it, so it's obvious they weren't trying to let this define their content. On October 16, 2011, they had Michelle Obama as guest star. August 26 of that same year, One Direction came to play on their webshow. October 27, 2012, they were even invited on Jimmy Fallon. They were insanely mainstream for what they just wanted to make for fun, and they still were don't get me wrong.

Ultimately, on December 8, 2012, iCarly would have its last webshow as they wrapped up any plotlines left hanging. This didn't mean the end of Carly and Sam, oh no, they still stuck around as their videos would shift to whatever they wanted to post. Gameplay, vlogs, speedpaints, anything they wanted without being tied to a schedule.

Carly and Sam would remain celebrities, even being celebrity casted in some animated movies.

But what a crazy route to even get there! Makes one wish to even meet them. I know Miss B did, once. She's met just about anyone famous if you've gotta be honest... But oh well, guess I was just born too late for that.

I can't even properly review this. How can you review an old webshow? Maybe as an improv show, but I haven't gone to many of those. And the ones I did go to had Miss B and Blopy yell out profanities at the actors, and that was prolly the funniest part of it.
