Heya! I'm Klefty! I'll be sending in some short notes to help qualify certain details that might go missing in this timeline!
Of course you should know the basics. In this coocoo crazy world, Mario and Sonic both co-exist in this world. There's no watsonian explanation for this, but a doylist one is because the original creator ironically can't draw Sonic all that well :p.
That, and to bring some more variety of spice across all the other existing "Sonic in FNaF" games. (If there are any...)
Sonic's Fast Food Diner
- Tails creates "Sonic's Fast Food Diner" for kids who adore Sonic the Hedgehog.
- Because Sonic can't hang around the diner to perform, as advertised on posters, Tails clones Sonic instead.
- A yellow-furred Sonic is created, termed Origin Sonic.
I say “termed Origin Sonic” because he was always called Golden Sonic! The Origin title is used out-universe as to not confuse the player.
The FNaS series takes place right after the original Sonic 1. In this timeline, Tails had already met Sonic before Sonic 2.
Five Nights at Sonic's 5
- Dr. Robotnik infiltrates Sonic’s Fast Food Diner, disguised as a night guard, to spy on Tails and Sonic starting July 2nd, 1991.
- Shadow Sonic, from the far future, travels to this point in time to ensure the Bite of ‘91
- Origin Sonic gets more and more agitated at seeing future versions of himself. Patrons note seeing these “Golden Sonics” aswell.
Originally, Shadow Sonic traveled to this point in time to cause a time paradox. More recent entries like Maniac Mania have him say he traveled there to set in motion his future.
The Bite of '91
- Origin Sonic, now fully agitated, bites onto Dr. Robotnik’s head, causing a massive tear on his head, with some of it managing to come off.
- Takes place July 7th, 1991.
- Dr. Robotnik is hospitalized and sent into a coma.
- Sonic's Fast Food Diner closes down.
Five Nights at Sonic's 5: Hard Mode
- Dr. Robotnik goes into a coma, suffering another week at Sonic’s Fast Food Diner, with everyone and everything looking charred and run-down.
You might be wondering what those colored text messages are at the end of every night in Hard Mode. Those are indicative of members inside the in-universe Team Cyantix, responsible for creating FNaS games based on the real events to them. The events of the chats take place after FNaS4.
After FNaS has ended for them to create games off of, they created a pizzeria and made robots in their image, but they went haywire and the team fled the scene since the robots were very life-like and could commit crimes in their image.
The cyan text, the leader of the group, would head inside to stop the robots, but he’d die in an explosion and become Phantom Ian. That would’ve been the plot of Five Nights at Sonic’s 6.
Their plot is no longer canon, so you should ignore everything it has to offer!
Origin rots
- Origin Sonic is held in storage for a long time. He starts rotting as a result and turns into Golden Sonic.
The regular Mario & Sonic games would then happen from 1991 till 2015.
In fact, the FNaS timeline would pick back up again after Sonic: Lost World and Super Mario 3D World.
Sonic's Hero Pizza Palace
- Sonic’s Pizza Co. reopens clone-based entertainment in the form of Sonic’s Hero Pizza Palace. Sonic, Tails, Mario, and Yoshi are cloned to become the main entertainers.
- Dr. Eggman sneaks into the building during the cloning process and tampers with the machine. As a direct result of that, the Clones become hostile at night.
While we know Tails made Sonic’s Fast Food Diner, do we know who created Sonic’s Hero Pizza Palace?
According to the creator, the manager of the SHPP franchise is Wario. This has not been mentioned in the games as far as I know, but the identity of the owner has never been important.
Luigi becomes the night guard
- Luigi takes the job offer of night guard. He begins recording voice messages for the future night guard.
- On his fourth night, Luigi is ambushed by the Clones. He manages to survive and stays sheltered inside the building for many years to come. He’s declared missing.
Five Nights at Sonic's
- Knuckles the Echidna takes the night guard duty from January 24, 2015 till January 30.
- Knuckles gets fired on January 31st for attitude, odor, and not watching the Master Emerald.
- Between all this, Shadow Sonic takes the 2015 period of Golden Sonic and brings him to 1991 before returning him back to this time period.
- Sonic's Hero Pizza Palace closes down.
Golden Sonic here is not a hallucination. He can actually teleport!
Reopened with Toys
- Sonic’s Hero Pizza Palace re-opens, with robotic entertainers in the form of the Toy animatronics.
- The Clones of the previous location are held in storage, turning into the Withered clones.
- Withered Yoshi digs Mario’s face into the stove top, melting off his face.
- Knuckles is re-hired, and records some messages for the future night guard.
- Toy Tails is torn apart, creating Taingle.
In the original FNaF, management believed the animatronics stuffing the guards in suits were them thinking they saw the guards as endoskeletons. In FNaS2, this seems to actually be the case.
Five Nights at Sonic's 2
- Amy Rose takes the night guard duty from April 20, 2017 to April 26.
- On April 27, Amy is killed by ‘17 Golden Sonic and has her body go missing. We know she’s dead due to a secret screen in Five Nights at Sonic's 4 featuring Phantom Amy.
- Between all this, Shadow Sonic takes the 2017 period of Golden Sonic and brings him to 1991 before returning him back to this time period.
- Sonic's Hero Pizza Palace closes down again.
Well we know Shadow Sonic is an actual character, but who are Shadow Mario, Yoshi, and Tails? Truly a question for the ages.
Other easter eggs in FNaS2 include Tails Doll and Luigikid. As far as I know, they bear no importance to the plot, despite how someone so desperately tries to.
Eggman wrecks
- All the toys and clones are put in storage.
- Clone Mario, Yoshi, and Tails are stabbed by Dr. Eggman, killing them in fairly gruesome ways. He also destroys the Toy animatronics, causing characters like Toy Yoshi to miss half of her body.
- A malfunctioning Toy Sonic confuses Clone Sonic for Eggman and tears him up, ripping off half of his left arm and leaving gashes everywhere. This turns Clone Sonic into Salvage Sonic.
- The spirits of the three dead clones head to Eggman, who commands Salvage Sonic to get rid of the ghosts. Salvage denies, and stabs Eggman, killing him.
- As a spirit, Eggman wanders through storage and possesses Golden Sonic.
- Takes place during 2026, as Nightmare Golden Sonic in Five Nights at Sonic's 4 stated he got stabbed a year ago.
It should bear reminding that Eggman is doing this out of revenge against Sonic’s Hero Pizza Palace for biting bits of his head off back in 1991. Now why he didn’t carpet bomb the establishment with his army, I can’t tell you.
Sonic's Hero Pizza Palace re-opens
- The storage area is reused to house the third Sonic's Hero Pizza Palace building.
- As Salvage Sonic remains the only working performer, the employees apply layers of make-up on him to hide his small scars.
- Silver the Hedgehog works there as the phone guy.
Silver sure talks like he’s familiar with the pizzeria since FNaS1. Maybe he’s always been an employee there? But that’s just silly Klefty speculating!
A contact of mine, ShadedAkumu, also speculates that Silver went into the past to investigate why his future is ruled by Dr. Golden.
Five Nights at Sonic's 3
- The real Sonic the Hedgehog takes the night shift from September 13, 2027 to September 17.
- On September 18, the building catches fire due to faulty wiring. Salvage Sonic is caught under the rubble, and the real Sonic escapes.
- Before the building is set ablaze, Shadow Sonic takes the 2027 period of Golden Sonic and takes him to 1991 before returning him back to this time period.
- The real versions of characters, such as Sonic, Mario, Tails, etc., leave this world out of shame.
Phantom Bew is not important to the FNaS canon. From what I’ve heard from Kluns, the real Bew is kind of a sexual deviant who cheated on his ex and has left the internet to hide himself inside VRChat.
Sounds a bit like a fairytale creature, and I’m talking about those Brothers Grimm-type creatures. …And emphasis on ‘creature’. Anyway, having such a person be tied to the series would not be a good idea to have in the long-term.
Salvage Sonic survives
- Salvage Sonic unearths himself from the rubble and looks over to the corpses of his three clone friends. He drags all three of them back to the run-down Five Nights at Sonic's 1 location to use the cloning machine stationed there.
- As he activates the cloning machine, he uses the loose scraps of the Toy animatronics to rebuild them into the Toymare.
- Asking Golden Sonic for help, he ambushes Salvage and kills him out of revenge, not knowing Golden Sonic is possessed by Eggman. He’s reborn inside the cloning machine, along with everyone else as the Nightmare clones. The corpse of Salvage Sonic is stuffed inside the Toymare.
- The Nightmares notice Luigi has been hiding inside the building all this time and decide to play a deadly game with him.
- This all takes place over a week.
Five Nights at Sonic's 4
- Luigi spends the week playing a deadly game against the Nightmare clones.
- Luigi manages to slip by the clones and escape back into society. The clones are disposed of as a result of what happened.
- They were just sent to a storage room.
- Between all this, Shadow Sonic takes the 2027 period of Golden Sonic and brings him to 1991 before returning him back to this time period.
One of the cutscenes in FNaS5 has Shadow Sonic take Nightmare Golden Sonic in the FNaS1 building on February 2028. Quite the leap in time compared to having it be "one week after FNaS3", right?
Well whatever time period Shadow Sonic nabbed him from, it doesn't matter overall. I prefer having it still take place in 2027 as having NGS still cooked up in that building, while society would logically search for all SHPP buildings to banish the clones from, all the way till 2028 would be a bit silly.
Shadow Sonic becomes Dr. Golden
- Nightmare Golden Sonic degrades even further black and turns into Shadow Sonic. He can time travel now, so he decides to fulfill his time loop by going back in time and making sure the Bite of ‘91 happens. He takes previous versions of himself to stress out Origin Sonic.
- Back in his period, Shadow Sonic starts melting down, but survives by cutting off his legs, the source of the melting, and replacing them with cybernetic ones.
- Hacking off bits of the Chaos Emeralds and the Master Emerald, Golden Sonic workshops himself a Phantom Ruby to heal himself. He then adopts his new persona: Dr. Golden.
- Dr. Golden rebuilds the Toy Animatronics to serve him. Golden Castle is also built.
- The clones rebuild themselves back to their regular appearance. They perform some mental exercises to not become hostile when night falls.
WOW I’ve seen a lot of split-off branches past FNaS4. Most of them are dead though. But don’t feel overwhelmed! You should only focus on RockClones, and it could’ve been such a fun game to play too.
RockClones: Dr. Golden's Attack!!
- Takes place March 12th, 2030. Dr. Golden invades and terrorizes towns and local areas housing the pizzeria’s. The clones inside the warehouse arm themselves to prove to everyone they’re more than pizzeria mascots.
- Although canceled, the creator revealed that the ending would’ve had Dr. Eggman’s soul be removed from Dr. Golden, returning him back to Golden Sonic.
There was also a planned Encore Mode, but that’s written out of history as it was part of the Team Cyantix plotline.
Five Nights at Sonic's 4: Halloween Edition
- Luigi suffers a nightmare after seeing the clones dress up in costume.
- Takes place during Halloween.
- Golden Sonic has turned good, and the clones are integrated into society, so it takes place after RockClones: Dr. Golden's Attack.
And that’s how this world was written. You might have some questions about the lack of certain events or characters.
Well, Maniac Mania isn’t canon anymore. It was just an arcade cabinet inside Golden Castle, but future story choices doesn’t allow it to be canon anymore…
Lefty Sonic also comes from a non-canon game: Sonic’s Pizzeria Simulator. Everyone liked her, however, so she’s been adopted in certain games and fanart.
